Navigating the Worst Parts of Starting a Podcast
So, here's the scoop: we are just 2 gal pals armed with excitement and a couple of mics, deciding to plunge into the podcasting scene. Spoiler alert: it's already been a wild ride of figuring out how to balance our day jobs, spreading the word, dealing with vacation breaks, brainstorming content, and attempting to stay on topic without falling down too many rabbit holes. Here's the nitty-gritty of our fresh-off-the-boat podcasting escapade:
1. Juggling 8-to-5s and a New Podcast:
Guess what? We both have regular jobs, and suddenly, finding time for our podcast became a puzzle. Weekends and late-night sessions became our recording haven, where office banter turned into awkward yet hilarious podcast material.
2. Shouting into the Void: Getting the Word Out:
We thought marketing and distribution were reserved for the pros, but nope! RSS became our megaphone, as we begged friends and family to give our newbie podcast a shot. We're still hoping for that moment when someone listens and says, "Hey, I kinda like this!" but we have to start somewhere.
3. Vacation Time - More Like Panic Time:
We started this podcast right before Christmas. Vacations hit us hard – should we pause? Nah, we decided to plan our first release date and following episodes so we would have time to edit and publish according to our schedule. Of course, crossing our fingers that our attempt at scheduling would work out. The result? We have survived so far, even if one of us is out shredding the ski slopes.
4. Cooking Up Ideas and Banter:
Our brainstorming sessions were like a potluck of random ideas and laughter. We threw in whatever popped into our heads, hoping it would make a decent episode. Q&A sessions and interviews? We're still figuring that part out, but it's bound to be a wild ride.
5. Tangents Galore: Lost and Loving It:
In the middle of our conversations, tangents sneak in like uninvited guests. Armed with a semi-script (okay, mostly scribbles), we embraced the chaos, promising ourselves we'd stay focused (spoiler alert: we usually don't).
Our newbie podcasting journey is like riding a bike for the first time – wobbly, unpredictable, but oh-so-fun. Here's to more episodes, learning curves, and whatever curveballs our podcasting escapade throws our way! Cheers to the fresh, unfiltered chaos of just starting out!
